5.19 Priming the Fuel System
Prerequisites
Machine shut down
Engine cool
l
Procedure
Follow the procedure below to prime the fuel system.
1. Open the engine compartment.
2. Locate the fuel filter/water separator.
3. Push the plunger (a) to fill the filter element with fuel. Pump the plunger
approximately three times until resistance is felt. This indicates the filter element
is full of fuel.
4. Attempt to start the engine.
Continue priming if:
The engine does not start.
The engine starts but misfires.
The engine starts but emits smoke.
If the engine runs roughly, continue to run the engine at low idle until the engine
runs smoothly.
