13 Trunk Line and Drop Line Length
13 Trunk Line and Drop Line Length
Refer to www.odva.org for more information regarding wiring DeviceNet networks.
Trunk Line
The maximum allowable trunk line length depends on the type of cable used and the network baud rate. The total cable
length includes the length of the trunk and the sum of all the drop lines.
Table 23 Trunk Line Cable Length
To calculate the maximum total length for trunk lines of mixed thick and thin cables, use the following formulas:
125 kbps: L
thick
+ (5 x L
thin
) 500 m (1640 ft.)
250 kbps: L
thick
+ (2.5 x L
thin
) 250 m (787 ft.)
500 kbps: L
thick
+ L
thin
100 m (328 ft.)
Drop Line
The drop line is measured from the tap on the trunk line to the transceiver of the DeviceNet node. The total cable length
includes the length of the trunk and the sum of all the drop lines.
