1.5 Troubleshooting Quick Reference
This section provides examples of Ethernet communication trouble that occurs frequently and can be remedied
with relatively simple operations. If the error cannot be corrected by following the information in the table below,
troubleshoot it by referring to the flow in 1.1.2 Details.
Detail of Trouble Cause Remedy
Connection with
MPE720 cannot be
established.
A straight cable is used for the direct connection
between the computer and the Ethernet Module.
Use a cross-over cable.
Note that straight cables are used when connecting via a hub.
Note: The 218IF-02 Module automatically detects the cable
type so either type of cable can be used.
The module configuration of the Ethernet Module is
not defined or not saved to the flash memory.
(When the IP LED at the front of the module is unlit,
with the built-in Ethernet or 218IF-02 Modules. With
the 218IF-01 Module, judgment based on the LED
indication is not possible.)
After setting the INIT or E-INIT switch at the front of the
Ethernet Module to ON and turning the power OFF and back
ON, define the module configuration and save it to the flash
memory using MPE720.
The IP address of the computer is set to be automati-
cally allocated.
Set the IP address of the computer manually, as shown in the
following example.
Example: Ethernet Module: 192.168.1.1
Computer: 192.168.1.10
Connection to the 218IF-01 Module was attempted
with Ethernet LP set for the communication port type.
Set Ethernet for the communication port type and connect
again.
Message communi-
cation does not
start.
The INIT or E-INIT switch at the front of the Ethernet
Module is left at ON.
Set the INIT or E-INIT switch at the front of the Ethernet
Module to OFF and turn the power OFF and back ON.
(If one of these switches is set to ON, message communication
will not be started.)
After changing the transmission definition or connec-
tion parameters, the data has not been saved to the
flash memory or the power has not been turned OFF
and back ON.
Save the data to the flash memory and turn the power OFF and
back ON.
(After changing or adding the IP address or connection param-
eters, it is necessary to turn the power OFF and back ON to
enable the setting.)
No message function has been created or executed in
the ladder program.
Create a message function in the ladder program.
(No message function is required for automatic data reception
or I/O message communication with the built-in Ethernet
Module.)
The Dev-Typ (transmission device type) setting in the
message function is incorrect.
For the built-in Ethernet or 218IF-02 Module: Set 16.
For the 218IF-01 Module: Set 6.
The remote device does not have a transmission func-
tion (setting) for communicating with the Machine
Controller.
Check the transmission function (setting) of the remote device.
