STEP 4 Shock the Patient
When a Shock is Needed
WARNING! DO NOT touch defibrillation pad surfaces, the patient, or
any conductive material touching the patient during ECG
analysis or defibrillation.

You hear:
Charge-ready tone
DON’T TOUCH PATIENT. PRESS
FLASHING SHOCK BUTTON.
You hear:
DON’T TOUCH PATIENT. SHOCK WILL
BE DELIVERED IN THREE, TWO, ONE.
You see:

Do this:
Press flashing shock button.
Do this:
Stand clear.
(The AED automatically shocks the
patient).
AED announces SHOCK DELIVERED.
Once the shock has been delivered, the AED provides CPR guidance and
continuing ECG analysis to determine if more shocks are needed.
