Overview
OppositetotheICMPslowresponsefunction,theICMPfastresponsefunctionreduces
delaysanddelayjitterofpingpackets,andincreasesthestandard-reachingrateofnetwork
delays.
Todetecttheconnectivitywithanothernode,onenodeusestheICMPresponsefunction.
ThesourcenodesendsanICMPEchoRequestpackettothedestinationnode.After
receivingthispacket,thedestinationnodereturnsanICMPEchoReplypacket.When
thesourcenodereceivethecorrespondingReplypacket,itdeterminesthatthenetworkis
connected.
TheICMPslowresponsefunctionmeansthatadestinationnodesendsreceivedRequest
packetstothecontrolplane,whichreturnsReplypackets.T oreducedelays,theICMP
fastresponsefunctiondirectlyreturnsReplypackets.
