Device configuration
The CoreSense Hub offers complete transformer monitoring by interfacing with the ABB family of eDevices.
This includes the following eDevices:
eDevices model descriptions
eBR–Gas accumulation
An electronic transducer and a dedicated PCB constantly monitor gas accumulation in the Buchholz relay
by 4–20 mA analog output and Modbus RTU protocol. The double flow vanes ensure the detection of two
thresholds of oil flow speed.
ePRD–Tank pressure
The pressure relief device is used to control the pressure inside tanks. It is important in cases where an
accidental, sudden, and uncontrolled increase in pressure creates the danger of explosion. It is designed to
discharge pressure in a very short time (a few thousandths of a second). It is widely used in oil-cooled electric
transformer metal tanks. Data monitoring is provided by means of a 4–20 mA analog output and a Modbus
RTU communication protocol.
eOLI–Oil Level
Unexpected or accidental oil leakages may occur randomly during a transformer’s lifetime. Clear indication of
the oil level inside a transformer tank and on load tap changer is provided by means of a pointer on the main
dial which ensures high visibility from any viewpoint. Data monitoring is provided by means of a 4–20 mA
analog output and a modbus RTU communication protocol.
eOTI–Oil Temperature
The oil temperature is a crucial parameter to be monitored in large distribution transformers and power
transformers: this gives a fundamental understanding about the overall performances of equipment by
avoiding unacceptable thermal degradation and ensuring a longer lifetime. This instrument is designed to
measure the temperature of the insulating oil inside power transformer tanks and can be fitted with up to
five change-over microswitches suitable for controlling cooling equipment and protection circuits (alarm and
