Analogue signals
Analogue signals directly represent the information being transmitted (for example, a conventional
record player converts the vibration of the stylus into an electrical signal). Analogue signals are prone
to interference and distortion.
Aspect ratio
Ratio between screen width and height.
4:3 (4 units wide by 3 units high) is the traditional aspect ratio used in television and computer
monitors. 16:9 is the aspect ratio used in widescreen television.
Bandwidth
This is the maximum amount of information that can be transmitted over a specific connection.
Coaxial
Coaxial cable is the most common type of cable used to transmit video signals. Coaxial connectors
are becoming more common in domestic audio and video equipment with the advent of digital
technology.
