Optical connection
Some domestic audio/video devices have optical inputs and outputs. The signal is transmitted
between the devices using a laser light source.
PAL
The television system used in Australia, Scandinavia, South Africa and Western Europe.
RF loop through
This is a socket that provides a direct signal (usually from your television aerial), allowing you to feed
that signal to additional equipment.
SCART
SCART cables provide a standard means of linking audio and video signals between compatible
equipment fitted with SCART connectors.
Standby
An increasing number of consumer devices incorporate standby mode. When a device is in this mode,
power is still connected but the device is not operational. Any device that can be switched on using a
remote control incorporates standby mode.
VCR
Abbreviation for Video Cassette Recorder.
