3.15 ETHERNET CABLE CONNECTIONS
Part numbers are assigned for unshielded, straight-through CAT5 UTP (PN 3AL48960AA-
AL) and CAT5E UTP (PN 3AL15052AA-AL) cables. The CAT5 or CAT5E cables can be
used for 10/100/1000BASE-T applications, however the CT5E cable is the recommended
cable for 1000BASE-T applications. The CAT5E cable has a tighter, higher quality twisting
on the wire pairs and is less susceptible to crosstalk. Refer to
Table 3 - 10 and Table 3 - 11
for pinout. See Figure 3 - 15 for pair wire colors. See Figure 3 - 16 and Figure 3 - 17 for inter-
connect information.
3.15.1 Automatic MDI/MDI-X Configuration
The Ethernet PHY provides automatic Medium Dependent Interface (MDD/Medium Inde-
pendent Interface-crossover (MDI-X). Automatic MDI/MDI-X configuration eliminates the
need for crossover cables.
