What is MP3?
MP3, whose official name is "MPEG Audio
Layer 3", is a compression standard
specified by MP EG, a joint executive body
under ISO (International Organization for
Standardization) and IEC. MP3 files contain
compressed audio data. MP3 encoding can
compress audio data at an extremely hig h
ratio, reducin g th e size of music files to
one-tenth of the origin al size. At the same
time, t he sound quality remains close to the
level of CD. The MP3 format ach ieves suc h a
high compression rate by removing sound s
that cannot be heard by th e huma n ear or
that are mask ed by other sound s.
What is WMA?
WMA or "Wind ows Media™ Audio" is
compressed audio data. WMA i s similar to MP3
audio da ta.
What is AAC?
AAC is the abbreviation of "Advanced Audio
Coding", which is a basic audio compression
format adopted by MPEG2 or MPEG4.
What is M4A?
M4A is the file extension of the MPEG-4
audio standard, and M4 A files contain
compressed audio data.
What is WAV?
WAV is a sound fil e format developed by
Microsoft. It conforms to the RIFF (Resource
Interchange File Format) file specification. It
is used to save audio i nformation resources
on th e Wind ows platform an d is widely
supported by th e Wind ows platform and its
applications. It a lso s upports a variety of
compression algorith ms s uch as MSAD PCM,
CCITT A L AW, and suppor ts mu ltiple audio
numbers, sampling frequen cies and
channels. The standard formatted WAV file
is th e same as the CD format. It also has a
sampling frequency of 44.1kHz and a 16-bit
quantized number. The qualit y of sound
files is almost the sa me as that of CD! It is
the clo sest to lossles s music format, so the
file size is relatively large.
What is FLAC?
FLAC Ch inese can be interpreted as lossless
audio compression coding. FLAC i s a
well-known set of free audio compression
coding, which is characterized by lossless
compression. Unlike other lossy
compression codes such as MP3 and AAC, it
will n ot destroy any original audio
information.
What is APE?
APE is one of the popular lossless
compression formats for digital music.
Unlike lossy compression formats such as
MP3, which irreversibly delete data
(insensitive to huma n hea ring) to reduce
the s ize of the source file, lossless
compression formats such as APE use a
more refined recording method to reduce
the v olume. The sou rce file is th e same , thus
ensuring the i ntegrity of the file.
What is DSD?
The DSD music format is a format of lossles s
music. Be cause its encoding method is
different from the ordinary en coding
method, it is a digital encoding, so it h as
become a niche and s pecial music format.
