distance used up by fad ing brakes could

The I (USA models)/ . (Canada models) in-
d icator light monitors the safety systems e .g .
a irbags, pretensioners a nd illum inates for a
few seconds each t ime you switc h the ign ition
on.
If the
I (USA models)/ . (Canada models)
indicato r light does not go out, or if it illumi-
nates w hile you are driving , o r if it sta rt s to
blink, then there is a ma lfunction somewhere
in the system. If the light does not illuminate
when you switch on the ignition, this also
means there is a ma lf unction.
A WARNING
If you have a malfunction in the safety sys-
tems, contact your author ized Audi dealer
immediate ly. Otherw ise the safety sys-
tems may not wo rk properly in an acci-
de nt .
-4. Safety belt warning light
Applies to vehicles: with safety belt warning light
The warning ligh t is a reminder to fasten
safety belts.
The warning light . comes on for a few sec-
onds after the ignit ion is switched on as a re-
minder to fasten your safety be lt.

0 Generator
This warning/indicator light detects a mal-
function in the generator or in the vehicle's
electrical system.
The . warning/indicator light illuminates
when you switch on t he ignition and must go
out after the engine has started.
If the . warn ing/ indicator light illuminates
whi le you are driving, you sho uld contact your
autho rized Audi dea ler. Since the vehicle bat-
tery is discharging, you shou ld sw itch off any
unnecessary electr ical consumers (for exam-
ple, the air conditioner) .

"l::r. Engine oil pressure
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol
requires immediate service or repair.
If the . symbo l appears in the d isp lay and
flashes, the oil pressure is too low. In add ition
to the symbol, the following message a lso ap-
pears in the display :
Switch off engine! Oil pressure is too low
.,. Pull off the road an d st op the veh icle.
.,. Shut the engine down.
.,. Check the engine oil leve l

.,. Contact your authorized Audi dealer for as-
sistance if necessary.
Engine oil level too low
If t he engine oil leve l is too low, top off oil to
the proper level ¢ page 187 .
Engine oil level OK
If the . symbo l starts flashing aga in even
t hough the eng ine oil level checks OK on t he
dips t ick, do not start driving again and do
not let the engine run at idle.
Instead, con-
tact your a ut horized Audi dea le r fo r assis-
tance .
(D Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol . is
not an indicator for a low eng ine oil lev-
el. Do not rely on it. Instead, check the
oil level in your engine at regular inter-
vals, preferably each time you refuel,
and always before going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication
II requires oil refill or workshop serv-
ice without delay. Do not wait until the
red oil pressure warning symbol .
