User's Manual
This mode is available if the Theater
Grand Processor detects that a Dolby Digital
encoded source is present at one of its digital
inputs. The front panel Dolby Digital Locked
light will come on.
You should look for the Dolby Digital Logo
on DVDs, LaserDiscs and other sources.
Many DVDs have the option of a Dolby
Pro Logic, Dolby Digital or Stereo soundtrack.
You must follow the instructions in the DVD
manual to select the Dolby Digital soundtrack.
This is sometimes labeled 5.1 or AC-3.
If a Dolby Digital 2-channel source is
playing in one of the digital inputs, the Theater
Grand Processor will separate the two
channels into stereo mode. This allows you to
manually select any of the DSP modes, or
Dolby Pro Logic.
Note: The Dolby Digital Locked Light only
comes on for Dolby Digital multichannel sources,
not for Dolby Digital 2-channel sources.
Dolby Digital
This mode is available if the Theater
Grand Processor detects that a DTS encoded
source is present at one of its digital inputs.
The front panel DTS Locked light will come on.
Look for the DTS Logo on DVDs,
LaserDiscs, CDs and other sources.
Make sure that your player has selected
the DTS soundtrack.
DTS
The 5.1 Surround modes
Dolby Digital and DTS are 5.1 surround
systems with five main channels: left, center,
right, left surround and right surround. Each
channel can play the full frequency range and
is independent of the other channels. The .1
denotes the subwoofer channel which plays
the low frequency effects (LFE), also indepen-
dent of the other channels.
With the Bass Management of the
Theater Grand Processor, the subwoofer can
play the bass from all the other channels in
addition to its own LFE channel.
The Theater Grand Processor will auto-
matically detect and lock on to these digital
signals.
