Appendix D - Spindle Entry Codes and SMC/SRC Values
When using a standard Brookeld digital Viscometer or Rheometer, each spindle has a two digit
entry code which is entered via the keypad on the DV1. e entry code allows the DV1 to calculate
Viscosity, Shear Rate and Shear Stress values and can also be calculated when using coaxial cylinder
geometry (SSA, ULA, ermosel, DAA, etc.) and cone/plate geometry.
Each spindle has two constants which are used in these calculations. e Spindle Multiplier Constant
(SMC) used for viscosity and shear stress calculations, and the Shear Rate Constant (SRC), used
for shear rate and shear stress calculations. Note that where SRC = 0, no shear rate/shear stress
calculations are done and the data displayed is zero (0) for these functions.
