4 Checking an Address-Pinging
4.1 To Ping an IP Address
1. Make sure that you have a crossover cable connected from the PC to either the scale, a router,
or the wireless bridge, depending on what you want to test.
2. Go to the Command Prompt (on most systems: START-PROGRAMS-ACCESSORIES-COMMAND
PROMPT)
3. At the C:\enter type ping 192.168.0.x (this is a sample IP; enter the address you actually want to
test). Make sure you leave a space after the word ping. Hit the ENTER key.
4. You should see a reply which looks something like this:
Reply from 192.168.0.X: Bytes=32 Time<1ms TTL=128
Normally, this will repeat 4 times. Don’t be concerned about the numbers as long as you get a
reply.
If you get the message:
Destination Host unreachable: Check cabling and addressing
Destination net unreachable: Check addressing
Request Timed Out: Check everything. Target address may be powered off, intermediate device
may be the problem. You may be able to pint the scale and have a problem with the wireless
bridge
NOTE: The Ping command tests physical connectivity from network card to network card. It does
not use the application software at all.
If Ping is Successful but You Cannot See the Scale in Messenger:
1. Make sure the scale IP is entered in the Config screen of the messenger
2. Make sure the default PORT numbers (that appear when you install the software) have not been
changed
3. Make sure the PC IP address is set correctly in the scale.
It the Messenger Can See the Scale but the Manager Cannot:
Make sure the scale number has been created in the manager. The system comes with scales
number 2-20 already created. If any other numbers are used they must be
added to the manager.
