Procedure 2-4
Installing a Fiber Optic Cable
The fiber optic cable is installed the optical SFPs in the 1G port on the
faceplate of the 3902.
Step Action
1 Clean both the port and the connector using standard local practices. If
alcohol is used as part of the cleaning process, use canned compressed air
to blow dry the surfaces you have just cleaned.
2 Insert the connector into the port on the device until you hear a clicking sound.
3 Insert the tail end of the cable into the port on the terminating device.
Note: The transceiver on the 3902 is hot swappable. A reboot is not required
after the SFP is installed. The system will discover the transceiver
automatically.
You have installed the fiber optic cable in the SFP. The port is
automatically activated when the SFP transceiver is installed.
Assuming the terminating device is connected, the LNK/ACT LED for
the port should now become activated. See “Gigabit Ethernet Port LED”
on page 4-3 for more information.
