2-2 Configuration and Diagnostic Utilities
CAUTION: Always ensure that the power is off before disconnecting or reconnecting the mouse,
keyboard, or any other peripheral devices. Disconnecting or connecting any peripheral devices while the
unit power is on can damage the system board.
3. Disconnect any peripheral devices other than the monitor and keyboard. Do not disconnect the
printer if you want to test it or if you want to use it to log error messages.
4. Install loop-back and terminating plugs for complete testing.
5. Turn the computer on.
6. Create a diagnostics diskette (Section 2.1.2).
If you are using a Deskpro 4000N, you may either download the diagnostics program from a
second computer onto the hard drive of the 4000N or run diagnostics from that second
computer.
7. Run the computer PC Diagnostics program.
2.1.2 Create a Diagnostics Diskette
Before beginning any diagnostics procedure, Compaq strongly recommends that you make a backup
copy of the diagnostics software as soon as possible.
Deskpro 4000S
The Create a Diagnostics Diskette allows you to back up the diagnostics software preinstalled on
your computer onto diskette. This utility is not available in Compaq Diagnostics for Windows; it
must be accessed through the Compaq Utilities menu.
Deskpro 4000N
This feature is not available in the Deskpro 4000N.
