3.1 About the Hardware Installation
Hardware installation of the SDM-8400 involves the following steps:
• “Installing the Unit in a Rack” on page 3-3 (Optional)
• “Powering Up the Unit” on page 3-5
• “Connecting the Console Terminal” on page 3-9
• “Installing the Licensed Software Options” on page 3-11
• “Connecting the LAN Hub” on page 3-11
• Connecting the user equipment to the serial ports (“Connecting the User Equip-
ment” on page 6-3).
NOTE: None of these procedures require removal of the chassis cover, adjust-
ment of internal parts or installation of optional parts inside the unit.
WARNING: Do not remove the cover of the SDM-8400. The SDM-
8400 unit contains no user-serviceable parts. Only a qualified
technician approved by Memotec is authorized to open the
unit.
