4.2.2 System Status LEDs
Three system status LEDs: PWR, ST and AL, are provided on the rear panel of the
SDM-8400. These LEDs are located on the left side of the unit when viewed from the rear.

Figure 4-1.
PWR (green) goes on when the unit is powered on.
ST (red/amber/green) indicates which program is operating on the unit and the
gender of the console port, as shown in
Table 4-2.
AL (red/amber/green) indicates several states, including a system alarm when a
software reset occurs. See
Table 4-3.
State Interpretation
Blinking Red/Amber/
Green
Early stage of system startup, when the bootstrap
program is executing a hardware self-test.
Steady Red/Amber/
Green
Middle stages of system startup, when the bootstrap
program is running. LED color indicates the console
port gender. Amber: auto-gender, Green: DCE, Red:
DTE
Amber Later stages of system startup, when the boot sector
is running. The exact function that is taking place can
be determined in conjunction with the AL LED. See
Table 3-1.
Off When system startup in progress: Bootstrap self-test
completed, starting boot sector
When system startup complete: the application is
running but no link is up.
Green The application is running and at least one link is up.
