13. Engine communication
13.1 Introduction to engine communication
Engine communication enables the SGC controller to communicate with different engine types over CAN bus. Some engine types
only allows the SGC to read information from the engine's ECU, while other types also makes it possible to regulate and transmit
different commands to the ECU.
Engine communication protocols are typically based on the SAE J1939 standard. It is a very comprehensive standard, and just a
small part is relevant for engine communication.

13.2 Default settings
The SGC controller is delivered with a set of default settings for engine communication. These settings are not necessarily correct
for the specific engine/generator set. Check all the settings before running the engine/generator set.
