3 | Explosion protection
D-LX 201/721
21
WARNING
Risk of explosion due to incorrect installation!
The use of unsuitable components can lead to explosion during operation.
Therefore:
Only ever use cable glands with ATEX approval.
Only use cables that are suitable for use in the hazardous area.
In potentially explosive atmospheres, or atmospheres that are presumed to be po-
tentially explosive:
Do not remove or replace fuses when under voltage.
Do not disconnect cables from the terminal strip when under voltage.
3.6.3 Protection in the form of an "Ex t" housing (dust)
This ignition protection type is used for the
device group and category II 2 D (zone 21)
and II 3 D (zone 22)
. Devices in this ignition protection type have a dust-proof housing
(IP6X) and prevent hot surfaces that could cause explosive dust to ignite. It is there-
fore important to comply with the permissible ambient temperatures. The through-hole
threads on the housing are either self-sealing or have seals to protect them against
the ingress of dust.
WARNING
Risk of explosion due to the operation of a flame monitor with a damaged
housing!
The Ex t housing contains sources of ignition. The operation of a damaged or modified
Ex t housing in a potentially explosive atmosphere can lead to an explosion.
Therefore:
Only use permissible cable glands so as to guarantee the explosion protection.
With the cables used, observe the cable diameter clamping area permissible for
the cable gland.
Only use cables that are suitable for use in the hazardous area (installation ac-
cording to EN 60079-14).
Do not make any retroactive changes to the housing. In particular, do not use im-
permissible surface protection, such as paint (as this will impair the protection
against electrostatic charges).
Always comply with the existing IP code (IP6X).
Before closing the housing completely remove any dust that may be present from
the housing.
Have damaged housings or seals replaced by a certified expert company.
