6.2 Device description
Features of the compact flame monitor:
● Consistent dual-channel microcontroller system (channel 1 and channel 2) for the
control and monitoring of safety-relevant flame monitoring functions, with continual
self monitoring
● Range selection switching, which enables the flame monitor to be changed to a dif-
ferent parameter set (intensity and frequency switching threshold, gain character-
istic curve, Flame Failure Detection Time [FFDT]),
● 8 gain characteristic curves available for selection for each range
● Dynamically controlled fault relays with monitoring of the internal operating
voltages and all safety-relevant hardware functions (see Fig.6.3 in Kapitel 6.1
Functional description [}41])
● Flame relays with self-monitoring circuit
● Step-wise adjustment of switching thresholds for intensity (16 steps) and flicker fre-
quency (4 steps)
● LED display for depicting operational readiness of the active range, flame notifica-
tion or flame monitor fault; indicates the flame intensity by flashing with variable
frequency
● Optionally available flame stability signal as indicator for changes to the combus-
tion situation, especially flame stability. With the flame stability signal you can de-
tect changes in the combustion early and if necessary take countermeasures in or-
der to prevent flame rupture or optimise the firing.
● Optimised filtering for better separation of the background radiation from the in-
tensity of the flame that is to be monitored
● Analogue output 0/4 ... 20 mA for the external display of various measured vari-
ables such as the flame intensity [}115], the flicker frequency or the flame stability
signal. The analogue output is configured with the D-LX 201 InformationCentre.
Selective single-burner monitoring or combustion chamber monitoring can be
achieved by selecting the suitable flame monitor type, correctly positioning/aligning the
sighting tubes and adjusting the device parameters.
All of the customer's connecting terminals are already pre-wired in the device, and are
lead out on the connecting cable (wiring by the customer).
The switching thresholds for the compact flame monitor's flame notification can be ad-
justed using the rotary controls und DIP switches.
The Flame Failure Detection Time [}115] (FFDT) is set to 1 second for each range at
the factory. Longer FFDTs (2 secs, 3 secs or 5 secs) can be set up on customer re-
quest.
