Fault nding
A list of fault condions and their possible causes is provided here to assist in basic
troubleshoong. If unable to recfy a fault when using this guide, call your supplier or your
neares
t Edwards Service Centre for advice.
Symptom
The pump has failed to start or has stopped on page
30
The pump has failed to achieve the required performance on page 30
The pump is noisy on page 30
The pumping speed is poor or if pump down me is too long on page 31
The pump has failed to start or has stopped
Cause The electrical supply fuses have blown.
Remedy Ensure the external electrical supply is switched on and that the power indicator LED
(Figure 2 on page 12, it
em 6) is illuminated. If the LED does not illuminate, contact
Edwards.
Cause The motor controller has not reset aer an over temperature event.
Remedy Disconnect the mains supply and wait for at least one minute and aempt to restart the
pump. If the pump sll does not start, contact Edwards.
If the alarm indicator LED (Figure 2 on page
12, item 9) on the user interface control panel
is ashing it is indicang that the pump is experiencing a high current load from possibly a
high inlet pressure/ow. Adjust the inlet pressure/ow unl the pump performance
recovers.
The pump has failed to achieve the required performance
Cause The pressure measurement technique or gauge head is unsuitable or gives an incorrect
indicaon of pressure.
Remedy Ensure that the vacuum measurement equipment is calibrated and is in date and that the
corr
ect gauge range has been selected for the applicaon. Contact Edwards for further
assistance on gauge selecon, if required.
Cause The vacuum ngs are dirty or damaged.
Remedy Ensure that any vacuum ngs that are used are clean and scratch free.
Cause There is a blockage or high pressure in the exhaust line.
Remedy Ensure that any exhaust valves ed are not closed when the pump is running.
Cause The motor controller is current liming the supply.
Remedy If the alarm indicator LED (Figure 2 on page
12, item 9) on the user interface control panel
is ashing it is indicang that the pump is experiencing a high current load from possibly a
high inlet pressure/ow. Adjust the inlet pressure/ow unl the pump performance
recovers.
