6. Press and hold both start buttons at the same time to start the scratch
(Figure 13).

The tool cylinder moves down until the tool makes contact with the
specimen and then the table moves from its start position to its stop position
to produce the scratch.
7. Release both push buttons.
The tool cylinder retracts and the table returns to its start position.
8. Inspect the scratch.
If the scratch is not deep enough, increase the pressure and repeat the
scratch. The scratch is normally produced by one single operation. Some
very hard or thick coatings however may need more than one operation to
produce a satisfactory scratch.
9. If necessary, rotate the table to the second position and repeat steps 6 and
7 to produce the second scratch.
10.When the scratch is complete, remove the specimen from the table.
