HD9084 HDTV Caption Encoder Manual
TROUBLESHOOTING Page 6-3
Set VIDEO → UPSTREAM CAPS → SD-SDI Input Source = ON
Set VIDEO → UPSTREAM CAPS → HD-SDI Input Source = GPI A (see NOTE 1 below)
NOTE 1: HD-SDI caption input source control has higher priority than SD-SDI input source control.
That's why this works even though SD-SDI Input Source = ON.
NOTE 2: For most applications, the CDPs will contain good CEA-608 and probably CEA-708 that was
derived by translating the 608 data. Recommended configuration is to leave the HD9084 translator
setup to translate CEA-608 CC1 to CEA-708 service-1 always. Do not use GPI A to drive the translator
"Master Control" because its active state will be backwards in this configuration.
NOTE 3: The mechanism that controls the CDP presence GPO does not perform any error checking on
the CDPs. The GPO will be asserted even if the CDPs are corrupted with fatal errors and cannot be
processed.
6.2.3. Disabling Teleprompter On Either Modem Or Telnet Connection
A teleprompter is usually connected to one of the RS-232 communication ports of the HD9084. Using
the “Port x Enable” menu settings, the HD9084 has the ability to automatically disable this port when a
remote live captioner is connected to either modem Port D/E or telnet Port F. However, only one of
these options may be selected at a time. Using the Parallel I/O port, it is possible to disable the
teleprompter port when either the modem or
telnet is in use. This example assumes the teleprompter is
connected to Port C.
Fabricate the GPI/O dongle as follows:
Connect pins 10 and 15 to provide pullup voltage for GPI/O.
Connect GPO1 [Pin 3] to GPIA [Pin 8]
Connect GPO2 [Pin 2] to GPIA [Pin 8] also.
In the front panel menus, configure the following settings:
Set PORTS → GPI/O CONFIG → GPO 1 Stimulus = Port F RxD
Set PORTS → GPI/O CONFIG → GPO 1 Active Level = Low
Set PORTS → GPI/O CONFIG → GPO 1 Assert Delay = 0 seconds
Set PORTS → GPI/O CONFIG → GPO 1 Deassert Delay = 30 seconds
Set PORTS → GPI/O CONFIG → GPO 2 Stimulus = Port D RxD
Set PORTS → GPI/O CONFIG → GPO 2 Active Level = Low
Set PORTS → GPI/O CONFIG → GPO 2 Assert Delay = 0 seconds
Set PORTS → GPI/O CONFIG → GPO 2 Deassert Delay = 30 seconds
Set PORTSGPI ACTIVE LVLS → GPI A Active Level = High
Set PORTS → PORT C SETUP → Port C Enable → GPI A
Set PORTS → PORT C SETUP → Port D Enable → Enabled
Set PORTS → PORT F SETUP → Port F Enable → Enabled
Port F (telnet) controls GPO1 and Port D (modem) controls GPO2. Either one of these can pull GPI A
low, which will disable Port C. If you unplug the GPI/O dongle for some reason, the teleprompter will
still function. With no input, GPI A will be pulled high, so Port C will be enabled.
