Projects
Encourages Self-organization, personal responsibility and planning
Students should work on their own as much as possible during the project lesson. This will
enable them to plan, execute and evaluate their work. The teacher acts as a moderator, ob-
server and, when needed, an advisor.
Encourages different social and organizational forms
The project lesson encourages team work, group-planned individual work and individual
work. The teacher can guide students towards a particular form of work or allow the struc-
ture to develop spontaneously. Project work can be organized in different ways depending on
the subject matter. The following four versions have proven to be effective:
1. Parallel work by a number of teams working on the same project.
2. All teams are subject to the same conditions. The different project solutions are assessed
at the project deadline.
3. Separate/joint team work on the same project
4. The groups work separately on the same project in the initial phase. Each group presents
its results. The decision about which proposed solution to use is made jointly. The project
is concluded jointly.
Joint-separate-joint work on the same project.
Students discuss the subject matter of the project and the different ways of working on it.
The overall project is broken down into subtasks. Problems are identified and the teams de-
cide which problems to solve. Each team presents its solution to the class. Following a “peer
review” round, the project is concluded.
