11.2 Settinguptheseatingposition
Theseat,handlebarsandstemmustbeadjusted
to your body mass and the desired sitting position
inordertouseyourFLYERsafelyandcomfort-
ably.
OnlyallowyourFLYERspecialistretailer
to work on the handlebars and stem.
These are components which are crucial
for your safety, so incorrect work and
tools in this area of the bicycle could
leadtoseriousfalls.
The seat and stem can be attached with
screwconnectionsorquick-releasefas-
teners. Always tighten the screw con-
nections with the correct torque. This
can be found in the enclosed technical
dataonyourFLYER.
Seat height
Inordertotransferthepedalforceeffectivelyto
thepedals,youmustsetyourseattotheappro-
priateheight.
FindtheidealpositionbysittingontheFLYERat
the vertical crank position and placing the heel of
yourbarefootontothepedalinitslowestposition.
Now the bottom leg should be stretched. If this
isnotthecase,dismount,adjusttheseatinthe
requireddirectionandtryagain.
Ensure that the quick-release fastener is com-
pletelyclosedaftertheadjustmentprocess.

There are markings on the seat post
which show how far it can be pulled out
oftheframe.Neverpulltheseatpostbe-
yondthemaximumlengthmarking.Oth-
erwise the seat post may buckle or
break.Ifyourequirealongerseatpost
to reach the correct sitting position, talk
toyourFLYERspecialistretailer.
Neverridewithaseatpostextendedfur-
ther than the maximum marker as this
couldresultinseriousfallsandinjury.
Childrenandpersonswhoarenotcon-
dent cyclists should be able to touch the
groundwiththetipsofbothfeet.Other-
wise, when stopping they run the risk of
fallingandsufferingseriousinjury.
Seat position
Thehorizontalpositionoftheseatcanandshould
besettoo.
Youareintheoptimalridingpositionwhenyour
front knee is directly above the pedal while the
crankishorizontallyaligned.
The horizontal adjustment of the seat may only
be performed within the markers and within the
rangespeciedbythemanufacturer.
Test whether the seat post and the seat
arermlyattachedbeforeyourideoff.
To do this, hold the seat at the front and
backandattempttoturnit.Itshouldnot
move.
Heightofthehandlebars
Once the seat has been rmly and comfortably
positioned, the handlebars must be adjusted to
yourneeds.
Aneffectivestartingpositionforrelaxedridingis
offered by a seating position in which the upper
bodyandarmforma90°angle.
Inordertochangetheheightofthehandlebars,
theheightofthestemmustbeadjusted.
