Optimized Idle operates the engine, starting and
turning it off as needed to maintain battery
charge, engine oil temperature, and cab/sleeper
temperature.
Reactivating Optimized Idle
If the hood is opened or the vehicle is put into gear
while Optimized Idle is running, the system enters a
safety loop and a pop-up appears. See
Fig. 10.6.
Restoring operating conditions (e.g. closing the hood
or setting the transmission in neutral) and performing
a key cycle allows you to reactivate Optimized Idle.
Deactivating Optimized Idle
Optimized Idle can be shut down by:
using the Optimized Idle menu screens on the
driver display;
turning off the ignition;
using the drive-away feature, as follows.
1.
If the engine is running: Release the parking
brakes, put the transmission in gear (automated/
automatic transmissions), or depress the clutch
(manual transmissions).
If the engine is not running: Start the engine.
Release the parking brakes, put the transmission
in gear (automated/automatic transmissions), or
depress the clutch (manual transmissions).
2.
Let the engine return to base idle. The telltale
turns off. Optimized Idle is now disabled.
Power Takeoff (PTO) Governor
WARNING
To avoid injury, do not install a PTO that is not
Detroit Diesel approved onto a Detroit
Transmission. Use of a non-Detroit Diesel
approved PTO with a Detroit Transmission could
result in unintended operation which could lead
to severe personal injury.
Engine power takeoffs (PTO) tap into engine power
to run auxiliary devices, such as hydraulic pumps
that power additional equipment.
The following are general guidelines for operating a
PTO.
1.
Set the parking brake and put the transmission in
neutral.
2.
Press the dash PTO switch. Release the switch
when the light begins to blink.
When the light illuminates steadily, the PTO is
engaged and ready to operate. In stationary
mode, the vehicle must remain in neutral with the
parking brake set.
