2.8 Connecting FRITZ!Box Fon to the USB
Port of a Computer
FRITZ!Box Fon can be connected to a computer with the USB
cable in a few easy steps. First read the instructions in the
next section, “Connecting the USB Cable”, and then see the
section describing installation in your operating system.
An operating system version of 10.3.3 or higher is required
to connect FRITZ!Box Fon to the USB port of an Apple Macin-
tosh computer. If your Apple Macintosh computer works with
an older version, connect FRITZ!Box Fon via the LAN port of
your computer.
Connecting the USB Cable
You will need the white USB cable for this step. In the Windows
operating systems, the FRITZ!Box Fon CD is also required for
driver installation. No driver installation is necessary in the op-
erating systems Mac OS X and Linux.
1. Switch on your computer once the FRITZ!Box Fon has
been connected to the mains power supply and DSL as
described on page 14.
2. If a Windows operating system is installed on the com-
puter, insert the FRITZ!Box Fon CD now. No CD is re-
quired for the Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.
3. Connect FRITZ!Box Fon to the USB port. The USB cable
has two different plugs: one is flat and rectangular and
the other is square.
