Connecting external devices
Connecting an external S ATA hard disk (eSATA)
The notebook itself d oes not have an e SATA port. The optional Port Replicator
available for your notebook provides this port.
An e xternal SATA hard disk can be connected at th e eSATA port. This allows you
to expand the internal hard disk ca pacity as you wish.
The length o f the eSATA cable m ust not exceed 2 metres. Consult a specialist
dealer for advice on which eSATA data cable is suitable for yo ur exte rnal eSATA
hard disk. Make sure that the hard disk has its own external power supply.
The data transfer rate is up to 2,400 Mbit/s.

Connect the data cable to the external
device.
Connect the data cable to the eSATA port.
Device drivers
The eSATA hard disk is automatically recognised by your operating system and insta lled.
You will nd more information in the documentation for the external SATA
hard disk and the operating system.
Safe removal of eSATA and USB devices
Always correctly remove the device according to the rules described below,
to ensure that none of your data is lost.
Left-click on the symbol to remove hardware safely.
Select the device y ou wish to shut down and remove.
Press the "Enter" key.
Wait f or the dialogue box which tells you that it is now safe to remove the device.
