User’s Guide FUJITSU PSWITCH
December/2018 125
For each VLAN routing interface, you can assign a static IP address or configure a
dynamic IP address assignment by the network DHCP server.
If bridging (L2 switching) is enabled instead of default routing on the port, all
normal bridging processing is performed on the received packet and associated
with the VLAN. It is the MAC destination address (MAC DA) and the VLAN ID is used
to look up the MAC address table.
A packet is sent if the routing of the VLAN is valid and the MAC DA of the received
unicast packet is that of the internal router interface. If it is received on a routed
VLAN, it forwards the received multicast packet to all ports in the VLAN and the
internal bridge router interface.
A port can be configured to belong to more than one VLAN, and VLAN routing can
be enabled on all VLANs on the port or only on a specific VLAN on the port. VLAN
routing can be used to allow one or more physical ports to be on the same subnet.
You can also use VLAN routing when VLANs span multiple physical networks or
require additional segmentation and security.
Execution of the L2 protocol on the routing interface is not recommended, as the
network may have unpredictable behavior if the L2 protocol function is enabled on
the port included in the VLAN routing interface.
3.1.9.9.3. IP MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit)
IP MTU is the maximum length of IP packets that can be sent on the routing
interface. The default for the IP MTU on each routing interface is the Layer 2 (or
link) MTU minus the length of the Ethernet header, which should be smaller than
the link MTU. If the link MTU is changed, the IP MTU will also change unless the IP
MTU of the interface is explicitly configured. This product supports jumbo frames,
and the IP MTU can be set up to the size obtained by subtracting the size of the
Ethernet header from the largest jumbo frame. Hardware usually implements IP
MTU when routing packets and enforces Layer 2 MTU when switching packets.
3.1.9.9.4. Network Directed Broadcast
This product supports the forwarding of broadcast packets for the network. A
broadcast packet for a network has a destination IP address whose host bits are all
set to 1. A router adjacent to the subnet to which the packet is destined broadcasts
the packet to the subnet, and all the stations on the subnet receive the packet.
Broadcast over the network is disabled by default, but it can be enabled on a
per-interface basis.
