Table 3-6: Supported route redistribution in IPv6
3.1.9.14. RIP (Routing Information Protocol)
The Routing Information Protocol (RIP) uses broadcast UDP data packets to
exchange routing information. The software sends routing information updates
every 30 seconds. This is called advertisement. If the device does not receive
updates from another device for 180 seconds or longer, the receiving device marks
the route provided by the non - updated device as unusable. If there are still no
updates after 240 seconds, the device deletes all routing table entries for devices
that will not be updated.
A device running RIP can receive a default network via an update from another
device running RIP or can send a default network using RIP. In either case, the
default network is advertised to other RIP neighbors via RIP.
3.1.9.14.1. Authentication in RIP
By default, the software will receive RIP version 1 (RIPv 1) and RIPv 2 packets, but
only RIPv 1 packets will be sent. It is also possible to configure the software to send
and receive only RIPv1 packets or only RIPv2 packets. To change the default
behavior, set the RIP version sent by the interface. Likewise, you can control how
packets received from the interface are handled.
RIPv1 does not support authentication. When sending and receiving RIPv2 packets,
you can enable RIP authentication on the interface.
The keychain determines the set of keys that can be used on the interface.
Authentication including default authentication is performed on that interface only
if the key chain is configured.
