III.b Guide rails
Check, visually, that the guides, where necessary, are properly lubricated and if necessary,
lubricating them passing on the side where the shoes lean, with a rag soaked in oil.
If installed, check the level and correct working of guide lubricator and if necessary, refill the tank.
Check, using a template, the distance, the verticality, and the parallelism of the guides.
Check that the bolts of the fishplates and of the fixing brackets are not loose and, if necessary,
tighten them properly.
III.c Shoes (or rollers)
Check, visually, the wear and cleaning status of the shoes/rollers on car frame and pulley-frame
Check the clearance and fixing of the guide shoes, if necessary, take up slacks returning them
to the correct values and tighten the bolts correctly
III.d Safety gear
Check that the lever, the roller and the switch are not worn, and their movements are regular
and easy
Check that all the fixing bolts are well tights
Check, manually and using a tester, that the electrical safety contact (SPR) is working properly
end it’s free in its movements
Verify that the safety gear works well performing the safety gear test (releasing ropes)
- Enter in pit safely,
- Bring the acting handle of the releasing rope device to the outside of the well
(eg passing the rope under the landing door panels)
- Exit from the pit
- Move the empty car to the higher floor and wait for the car stop and the doors close;
- Call the car at the lover floor.
- During the downward, from the outside of the well, pull the handle of the releasing rope
device and check that the parachute intervenes.
- Enter in pit safely.
- Bring acting handle of the releasing rope device to its original position
- Exit from the pit
- Use the hand pump to release the safety gear
- Restore the system to normal mode by resetting

Rejection criteria
DEPEND ON THE NUMBER OF RUNS, THE NUMBER OF YEARS OR VISIBLE DAMAGE
The coated steel ropes must be replaced when the maximum number of strokes has been
reached (see TDC), or years of life (from the type examination issued by TUV SUD CA 563) OR
when one of the indicated rejection criteria occurs in the rope user manual.
Ropes must be discarded after reaching a certain age or having completed a certain number of
runs (whichever comes first). Each change of direction must be counted as a complete ride.
The rope manual indicates a maximum number of 10 years before replacement (see reference
table). For all details on use, maintenance and rejection criteria of polyurethane-coated ropes,
refer to the ropes use and maintenance manual (version 0818 or later).
