Adding Brake Ferrules to Compensate for Cable Stretch
Over time the brake cables will stretch. In addition to this, the brake pads can wear out. The combination of both
of these occurrences may result in the brake lever being pulled to the point that it touches the handlebar AND the
brake barrel adjuster is turned out to the point where distance ‘C’ is more than 6.5mm as shown in Figure 9-11. In
the event that is occurs, you must fit a brake ferrule to reset the braking system as shown in the following figures.
If the brake adjuster is more
than 6.5mm out and the
lever can be made to touch
the handlebar, then you
must fit a brake ferrule as
shown in the following
figures.
