MULE DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION
(Refer to page 31, Fig. 18 & Fig. 19)
1. Rotate the footrest plate (A) up until it rests
against the seat. Remove the rear shield
(page 41, item 44) by unlatching the two rub-
ber draw latches on top and pulling the shield
up and out.
2. Feed the belt (B) under the tractor and on top
of the mower deck.
3. Wrap the belt around the clutch pulley (D)
and down through the two idler pulleys
(E). Be sure the belt has only 1/4 twist (F)
between the clutch pulley and each idler
pulley.
4. Pull on the mule drive belt (B) on one side of
the deck drive pulley (C) and roll the belt
onto the pulley.
5. Connect the wire harness to the clutch termi-
nal (H).
6. Adjust the belt tension as described in “Mule
Drive Belt Adjustment” section (page 31).
7. Make sure the belt is under the belt guide
(item 41, pages 59, 61, & 63) on rear of
deck.
MOWER DECK LEVELING
ADJUSTMENT (SIDE TO SIDE)
(Refer to page 33, Fig. 20 & 21)
NOTE: The object is to have the mower
blades cutting level side to side and have
about the same weight on each mower deck
hanger chain.
Mower blades are sharp. Wear heavy
gloves or cover sharp edges of blades.
1. Check air pressure on all four tires and adjust
to the correct pressure if necessary.
2. Mower deck can be leveled at any cut height
position. If blade heights do not match cut
height setting, do not adjust at this time.
Mower deck must be leveled side to side and
front to rear before cut height setting is ad-
justed. See appropriate sections below.
3. Position left blade in the side to side position
and measure from the outside blade tip to the
level surface (refer to Fig. 20).
4. Position right blade in the side to side position
and measure from the outside blade tip to the
level surface.
5. If the difference between both measurements
is greater than .125 inch, adjustment is neces-
sary.
6. If down adjustment is necessary, the deck lift
rod assembly (E) should be lengthened to
prevent the rear lift chain (F) from "hanging
up".
7. Locate the level adjust screw (A) on the
front left mower deck hanger (refer to Fig.
21).
8. Slightly loosen the 7/16-chain bolt (C) on
the front left mower deck hanger and level
adjust bracket (B).
9. Adjust the left side of the mower deck up or
down as required to match the right side by
turning the level adjust screw (A) clockwise
to raise and counter-clockwise to lower.
10. Adjust the level adjust screw (A) until
blades on both sides are the same height
above the level surface.
11. With blades leveled side to side, tighten the
7/16-chain bolt (C) securely.
12. Check that each of the mower deck hanger
chains (D&F) are tight and are carrying
weight. If a chain is loose, check level front
to rear (see next section).
