MOWER DECK LEVELING
ADJUSTMENT (FRONT TO REAR)
(Refer to Fig. 22 & 23)
NOTE: Adjust side to side mower level be-
fore adjusting front to rear level (see
previous section). The object is to have the
mower blades cutting slightly lower in the
front and have about the same weight on
each mower deck hanger chain.
Mower blades are sharp. Wear heavy
gloves or cover sharp edges of blades.
1. Check air pressure on all four tires and adjust
to the correct pressure if necessary.
2. Mower deck can be leveled at any cut height
position. If blade heights do not match cut
height setting, do not adjust at this time.
Mower deck must be leveled side to side and
front to rear before cut height is adjusted.
See appropriate section below.
3. Position left blade in the front to rear position.
Measure from the left front blade tip to the
level surface. With the blade in the same po-
sition, measure from the left rear blade tip to
the level surface.
4. The distance measured at the rear blade tip
should be .125 to .25 inch higher than at the
front blade tip (Refer to Fig. 22).
5. If the front to rear adjustment is not within the
given tolerance, then either adjustment is nec-
essary or the left blade may be bent.
6. Check to see if the left blade is bent by turn-
ing it 180° and measure from the left rear
blade tip to level surface again. If the result is
different by more than .125 inch, the left
blade is bent and should be replaced.
7. If the blade is straight and adjustment is nec-
essary, loosen the jam nut (A) on the left
deck lift rod assembly (C).
8. Adjust the left rear of the mower deck up by
turning the hex nut (B) clockwise. Adjust the
left rear of the mower deck down by turning
the hex nut counter-clockwise.
9. When the left front to rear adjustment is
within the given tolerance, securely tighten
the jam nut (A) on the left deck lift rod as-
sembly (C).
10. Repeat steps 3 through 9 above on the right
side.
11. Check front to rear mower levels on both left
and right side and readjust as necessary.
12. Check that each of the mower deck hanger
chains (D) are tight and are carrying weight.
If a chain is loose, adjust as necessary.
