3. Clean both filter elements if they are to be reused.
Foam element:
Clean in warm soapy water, rinse and allow to dry thoroughly. Or clean in
high flash point solvent and allow to dry. Dip the element in clean engine oil
and squeeze out all the excess. The engine will smoke during initial startup
if too much oil is left in the foam.
Paper element:
Tap the element lightly several times on a hard surface to remove excess
dirt, or blow compressed air [not exceeding 207 kPa (2.1 kgf/cm
2
) 30 psi]
through the filter from the inside out. Never try to brush the dirt off: brushing
will force dirt into the fibers.
4. Wipe dirt from the air cleaner base and cover, using a moist rag.
5. Place the foam air filter element over the paper air filter element, and
install the assembled air filter. Tighten the wing nut securely.
6. Reinstall the air cleaner cover, and tighten the wing nut securely.
Clean Dip in oil
Do not twist.
Squeeze
Do not twist.
Squeeze and dry
