ENGINE OIL
A CAUTION
Used engine oil may cause skin cancer if
repeatedly left in contact with the skin for pro-
longed periods. Although this is unlikely unless
you handle used oil on a daily basis, it is still
advisable to thoroughly wash your hands with
soap and water as soon as possible after han-
dling used oil.
LEVEL CHECK
NOTE:
• Check the oil level after starting the engine and
allowing the oil to circulate through the engine
thoroughly. It is especially important on a dry
sump engine, due to the comparatively large vol-
ume of oil.
• Do not snap the throttle while idling or the oil
level reading will be inaccurate.
Place the vehicle on level ground.
Start the engine and let it idle for 3 - 5 minutes. If
the air temperature is below 10C (50°F), let the
engine idle for an additional 5 minutes (a total of 10
minutes).
Stop the engine, wait for 2-3 minutes, and remove
the dipstick and wipe it clean.
Check the oil level by inserting the dipstick into the
engine without screwing it in.
