b. Turn on signal generator and set up as follows: for channel connected to Velocimeter
input, set to Frequency = 490.0 +/- 0.1 Hz, Waveform = Square wave. Monitor signal
generator output with spectrum analyzer with marker at 490 Hz. Adjust signal generator
output channel connected to Velocimeter input until amplitude is 134.4 +/- 0.5 mV RMS.
c. Press STATUS key on 8500C/C+.
d. Press MORE KEYS.
e. Press SELF-TEST soft key.
f. Press HW TEST soft key. The Self Test menu appears.
g. Select ANALOG FILTER TEST with arrow keys.
h. Press EXECUTE soft key.
You cannot proceed until the Analog Filter test passes. Occasionally the Analog Filter test
may fail with nothing permanently wrong with the 8500C/C+. If it does fail, press OK soft
key and the EXECUTE soft key to run again. If it continues to fail, refer to Table 5-8,
“Troubleshooting Guide”.
i. After Analog Filter Test passes, return to Self Test menu by pressing OK soft key.
j. Exit Self Test menu by pressing QUIT soft key.
k. Press SPECTRUM key on 8500C/C+.
l. Press SETUP key.
m. Select <Hz> on display with arrow keys.
n. Press CHANGE soft key change to <RPM>. These units give a finer resolution for this
test.
o. Key in 29788 (rpm) with numeric keys in MAXIMUM FREQUENCY field.
p. Select SEEK: field with arrow keys.
q. Press CHANGE soft key to select SEEK: <ON>.
r. Press ENTER soft key.
s. Wait 10 seconds and then press START key.
The acquired spectrum shows a range of odd harmonic peaks on the 8500C/C+ display, from the
1st (fundamental) on.
