Making the Measurement
1. P os ition the Re tr orc flector 's B ase in the rect ansle ma rked on the template of figure 2·5.
2. Se t up the displ ay as (ollows
DISTANCE
( RESET )
a. Pr ess DIST ANCE to se t up the M eas ur ement D is play unit fo r Distance mod e.
b. Se t the r ca r· panel ENG lI 5 1-1 / MlTRI C sw itch \0 METRIC, so the di splay will
r ead in "mm".
c. Pr ess R ESET.
J. Move the Retrore ri eclor 20 mm (0 .8 0 in ch) along the s tr aightedge, to the "20 mm" ma rk on
the
te mp late ( pr ovided as Figure 2·5 ).
No te the reading on the displ ay.
4. Specify five· di gi t di sp l ay resolut io n by pressing
( RESO ]
Note how much more fr equently the l ast digit chan ges.
Keep the same resolution, but turn off "smoot hin g" , by pressing
( RESOL ]
No tice h ow the l as t four digits n ow change. By entering a negati ve nu mber, you told the
M ea
su rement Di sp la y uni t not to "smoo th" (average) your measu rement data.
