Run Device Analysis Test from Test drop down menu in HP 
Library and Tape Tools (L&TT). Follow any troubleshooting 
given with the test results. 
Run the Read/Write test in L&TT. Check ERT performance 
in the support ticket. 
Ensure your drive is running with the latest firmware. 
NOTE:  
Due to issues in development Library and Tape 
Tools cannot be reliably used to diagnose potential 
issues with the DAT 40 Hotplug drive (Q1546A 
only). This problem is currently being investigated 
and will be corrected in the next revision of Library 
and Tape tools. This note will be updated once the 
problem has been corrected but until then do not 
use Library and Tape Tools to diagnose issues with 
this product. This problem only relates to the 
Q1546A product, no other DAT 40 variants are 
affected.

Load/unload issue 
Try in the following order:  
1.  Check that media can be loaded into the drive
.  
2.  Check if the media is ejected after insertion 
.  
3.  Check if tape is stuck in the drive (not visible behind the door)
.  
4.  Check if the media is stuck in the drive (door partially open) 
.  
5.  Check if your drive is repeatedly trying to eject media
.  
6.  Check if your media is ejecting after backup
.
