Whatisanarpeggiator?Musicistypicallybasedaroundchordprogressions.Thesemaynotbepresentedinan
obviously“chordal”waywhenthenotesofthechordarenotplayedtogethersimultaneously.Forexample,think
ofaguitaristplayingwithfingerpickingandusingintricatepluckstocreateamorecomplexpattern.Oftenthe
patternisstillbasedonsimplechordshapes.Anarpeggiatortakesadvantageofthisfact,anditprovidessynth
playerswithaneasywayofplayingcomplexsynthpartsviasimplechords.
Switchingonanarpeggiatortellsthesynthto“listen”tothenotesbeingplayed,thenitcreatesapatternusing
thesenoteswhichisplayedatthemastertemposoallthatisrequiredoftheplayeristoholdthenotes.Orifthe
arpeggiatorhasa“latch”function,justplaythechordonce,andthepatternwillcontinuetoplayuntilanother
noteorchordisplayed.Simple.
TheUNOSynth’sarpeggiatorsectionisoneofthemostcompleteinitscategoryandincludes10modes:
UP:Heldnotesplayfromthelowesttothehighest.
DOWN:Heldnotesplayfromthehighesttothelowest.
U/D:(up/down)Heldnotesplayfromthelowesttothehighestthendowntothelowestagain.
UD+:AvariationofU/D(up/down)wheretheuppernoteandthelowernoteplaytwiceatthetopandbottomof
thepatterninsteadofjustplayingonce.
D/U:Heldnotesplayfromthehighesttothelowestthenuptothehighestagain.
DU+:AvariationofD/U(down/up)wherethelowernoteandtheuppernoteplaytwiceatthebottomandtopof
thepatterninsteadofjustplayingonce.
