b. To remove any excess water, blow air through the coils with a hand-held blower or
vacuum.
8. Visually inspect the Environment Guard Premium e-coating on the microchannel coils for any
damage, degradation, or bare spots.
What to do next:
If the e-coating requires further touch-ups after cleaning, complete the following procedures:
• Applying touch-ups to small sections of finned coil surface on microchannel coils
• Applying touch-ups to end tubes or condenser coil headers on microchannel coils
Applying touch-ups to small sections of finned coil surface on microchannel
coils
Use the touch-up paint listed in Table 149 to touch-up small sections of the coil surface.
1. Shake the aerosol can thoroughly until the mixing ball rattles, then continue to shake the can
for 2 min.
2. For an even coating, use slow dusting passes to spray the contents of the can in both
horizontal and vertical patterns around 4 in. to 6 in. (10 cm to 15 cm) from the impacted
section of the coil surface.
Applying touch-ups to end tubes or condenser coil headers on
microchannel coils
If the e-coating on the end or dead tubes or on the condenser coil headers shows signs of
degradation, use two-part urethane mastic for touch-ups.
CAUTION
Do not use two-part urethane mastic on finned coil surfaces. Using urethane mastic on finned surfaces
can result in blockage of fin sections, which can reduce air flow across the coil.
The following materials are required:
- Two-part urethane mastic kit (P/N 013-04188-000)
- One mixing dish
- Three 3 ml droppers
- Soft bristle paint brush
Complete the following steps to apply touch-ups to the end tubes and condenser coil headers:
1. In the two-part urethane mastic kit, identify the following components:
- Component A: urethane mastic (black component)
- Component B: urethane mastic activator (clear component)
2. Thoroughly stir the can containing component A, urethane mastic, to ensure that any settled
pigment is dispersed before application.
3. Gently shake the can containing component B, urethane mastic activator.
4. To mix the urethane mastic and the activator in a 5:1 ratio, complete the following steps.
a. Use a dropper to add 5 ml of component A, urethane mastic, to the mixing dish.
b. Use the second clean dropper to add 1 ml of component B, the activator, to the mixing
dish.
