5 Lubricate the seal of the new filter with clean oil.
NOTE
Do not pre-fill the fuel filter. The system must be primed after the fuel
filter is installed. Pre-filling the fuel filter may result in debris entering
the fuel system and damaging the fuel system components.
6 Install the fuel filter onto the filter head. Tighten the filter until
the gasket contacts the filter head surface.
7 Tighten the fuel filter an additional 3/4 turn after contact.
NOTE
Do not overtighten the filter. Mechanical overtightening will distort the
threads, filter element seal, or filter can.
8 Use a priming device to pump fuel into the fuel system.
WARNING
The fuel pump high-pressure fuel lines and fuel rail contain very
high-pressure fuel. Never loosen any fittings while the engine is
running. Personal injury and property damage may result.
NOTE
Prevent causing damage to the hand pump priming seals, clean the
fuel pump head and priming pump with Quick Dry Spray Cleaner or
equivalent, and compressed air prior to priming the fuel system.
9 Start the engine and check for leaks.
NOTE
It is not necessary to vent air from the high pressure system before
starting the engine.
NOTE
Replace the suction-side and the pressure-side fuel filters at the
same time.
