1.6 Intake and exhaust system
Examine the charge-air cooler
1 Examine the charge-air cooler for dirt and debris blocking the
fins.
2 Examine for:
•
cracks
•
holes
•
other damages
3 If damage is found, refer to the vehicle, vessel, or equipment
manufacturer.
Examine charge-air piping
1 Examine the charge-air piping and hoses for:
•
leaks
•
holes
•
cracks
•
loose connections
2 Tighten the hose clamps if necessary.
Examine the air intake piping
1 Examine the air intake piping for:
•
wear points and damage to piping
•
loose clamps
•
punctures that may damage the engine
2 Replace damaged pipes.
3 Tighten loose clamps (8 Nm) to prevent the air system from
leaking.
4 Examine for corrosion below the clamps and hoses of the
intake system piping. Corrosion may allow corrosive products
and dirt to enter the intake system. If needed, disassemble
and clean.
Examine air compressor mounting
NOTE
Depending on the application, it is possible engines will not be equip‐
ped with an air compressor.
