Maximum Power Out Check
Maximum Power Out Check
Perform the following procedure to verify that the instrument is capable of
providing the maximum power output level required:
1. Return the instrument to a known state by pressing Preset.
2. Turn the ALC loop Off by pressing AMPTD and set ALC to Off.
3. Set the Power Search feature to manual by pressing Power Search, Power
Search, Manual.
4. Turn the RF On by pressing RF On/Off so that the LED below it comes on.
5. Connect the RF output to a spectrum analyzer with the following settings:
— Reference level +20 dBm
— Input attenuation to 30 dB
— Span 10 MHz
6. Tune the signal generator to a frequency that the unlevel condition is
occurring.
7. Set the amplitude of the signal generator to its maximum settable value
by pressing AMPTD, 30 dBm. If the instrument does not have the High
Power Output option (1EA) an error stating “value clipped to upper limit”
will be displayed and the level will be set to its maximum settable value.
The error can be ignored.
8. Tune the spectrum analyzer center frequency to the frequency of the
signal generator.
9. Verify that the power level measured on the spectrum analyzer meets the
maximum power level specified (+/- 3 dB) in Table 6-4 through Table 6-7
for the instrument being tested.
