Destination
ThisparameterdetermineswhetherthecurrentlyselectedzonetransmitsonlytothePC3K
(Local),transmitsonlytothe MIDIport(MIDI),transmitsonlytotheUSBport(USB_MIDI),
transmitstoapairofdestinations(MIDI+Local,USB_MIDI+Local,orUSB_MIDI+MIDI),or
transmitstoalldestinations(USB_MIDI+MIDI+Local).
Channel
TheChannelparameterdefinestheMIDItransmitchannelforthecurrentlyselectedzone.You
cansetittoanyofthe16MIDIchannels.Normally,youwillwanteachzoneonaseparateMIDI
channel.Thisisnecessaryifyouwanttocombinedifferentprogramsinthesetup.
Iftwozones
havethesameMIDIchannel(anddestination),buttheyhavedifferentprogram
settings,therewillbeconflicts:noMIDIdevice,includingthePC3K,canrespondcorrectlyto
twodifferentsimultaneousProgramChangecommandsononechannel.Theresultwillbethat
onlyoneProgramChangewillberecognized,andeverynote
playedwillsounddouble(ifNote
Mapsareon).Thiscancreateoddandunpredictabletimingeffects,andwillreduceyour
polyphonyby50%.
Nevertheless,therewillbeoccasionswhen“stacking”zonesonthesameMIDIchannelmight
comeinhandy.SupposeyouwantaphysicalcontrolleronthePC3Kto
senddatafortwo
differentnumberedMIDIControllersonthesamechannel.Inthiscase,youmustcreatetwozones
assignedtothesamechannel,butwithdifferentcontrollerassignments.
Here’soneexample:ifareceivingsynthisusingController1formodulationdepthand
Controller#13formodulationspeed,
youcanincreaseboththedepthandthespeedwith
Slider A .StartbyassigningSlider AinZone1toMWheelandinZone2toMIDI13;thenassign
bothzonestothesameMIDIchannel.(Youmaywanttomakesureyouaren’tsendingdoubled
notes.UsetheNote
MapparameterontheKEY/VELpagetosetonezone’sNoteMaptoLinear
andtheotherzone’sNoteMaptoOff.)
Anotherexample:createtwoormorezonesthatareidenticalexceptfortheirtransposition
settings.Nowyoucanplayparallelintervals(orchords)withsinglekeystrikes.
MidiBank
BeforereadingthissectiononMIDIBanks,besuretoreadthenoteinthesection

ThePC3K’sprogramsaredividedinto17MIDIBanks,numbered0–16.Program46inMIDI
Bank3,(whichisPC3KbankOrchestra),forexample,is430LeadOboe.TheMIDIBank
parameter
displayswhichbankthecurrentprogramisassignedto,andautomaticallychanges
tomatchtheProgramvalueyouset.
YoucansendBankSelectmessagestoexternalMIDIdevicesaswell,bysettingtheDestination
parametertoadestinationincludingMIDIorUSB_MIDI,thenchangingMidiBank.Some
instrumentsmayhave
morebanksthanthePC3K.BankswitchingviaMIDImakesiteasyfor
thePC3Kusertoselectsoundsonexternalinstruments,nomatterhowmanybankstheymight
have.
WhenyouchangethevalueoftheProgramparameter,thevalueofMidiBankautomatically
changescorrespondingly.Ifyouwanttotransmit
aMIDIBanknumberdifferentfromtheone
correspondingtothelocalprogram,selectthelocalprogramfirst,thenchangetheMIDIbank.
Ifyouselectanemptybank(likeBank53),thezonewillstillproducesoundonthePC3K,
providedthatDestinationissettoadestinationincludingLocal.
TheProgramparameterwill
displaywhateverinternalprogramyouset,butthebanknumbertransmittedovertheMIDIOut
portwillbedifferentfromtheinternalprogram’sbanknumber.
