theoutputvelocitychangesdirectlyproportionallytotheplayedvelocity.
Expandproducesacurvethatislesssteepthanthelinearcurveatkeystrikevelocitiesbelow64,
andsteeperthanthelinearcurveatkeystrikevelocities
above64.Inotherwords,whenyoure
playingsoftly,you’llnoticevelocitydifferenceslessthanwithalinearcurve,whilewhenyou’re
playinghard,you’llnoticevelocitydifferencesmore.
Compressproducesavelocitycurvethatistheoppositeoftheexpandedcurve—thatis,you’ll
noticevelocitydifferencesmorewhenyou’replaying
softlythanwhenyou’ replayinghard.
