NEUTRAL/REVERSE
SWITCHES
INSPECTION
Disconnect the neutral/reverse switch wire
connector. (See page 6-4 or 6-10)
Check for continuity between the switch
side connector terminal and engine ground.
NEUTRAL SWITCH
There should be continuity with the
transmission in neutral and no continuity
with it in any gear except neutral.
REVERSE SWITCH
There should be continuity with the
transmission in reverse and no continuity
with it in any gear except reverse.
REPLACEMENT
Remove drive and driven pulley. (Refer to
chapter 9)
Remove the two bolts and set plates.
Remove neutral/reverse switch.
Install a new switch with a new O-ring
(apply engine oil to O-ring).

Make sure that the lever on the
neutral/reverse switch correctly engages
with the locating slot on the shift shaft.
