6.2 Configuring the NOVOLAS Basic AT
The RS232 interface allows communication to the NOVOLAS Basic AT system in
order to set operation modes and parameters or to obtain status information.
Communication parameter settings:
19200 Bauds, 8 data bits, no parity, one stop bit
The following ASCII protocol is used for the RS232 interface:
All commands are initiated with a colon “:” and end with an ASCII 13 [CR] and an
ASCII 10 [LF] character. A command entry can be interrupted by sending an ASCII 8
[BS] character. The system would acknowledge this by sending:
:BRK[CR][LF]
Reading and writing of parameters
Parameter-read: :rX[CR][LF]
Parameter write: :wX Y[CR][LF]
X stands for the register index no. and Y stands for the register value. Be aware that
there is no blank character between the command character and the register index.
The register value X is separated by a blank character from the value Y.
Example of register setting & reading

:OK[CR][LF] Select laser module #A
:w0 2[CR][LF] :OK[CR][LF] Set analog current operation mode for the above selected
laser unit. In this mode the current is set according to
corresponding analog voltage input on the Customer I/O
