Thenexttimeyouturnonyourcomputer,youwillhavetotypetheuserormasterharddiskpasswordin
ordertostartyourcomputerandgetaccesstoyouroperatingsystem.
Changingorremovingaharddiskpassword
Followsteps1through7in“Settingaharddiskpassword”onpage55,typingyourpasswordtogetaccess
totheThinkPadSetupprogram.
TochangeorremovetheUserharddiskpassword,dothefollowing:
•Tochangetheharddiskpassword,typethecurrentpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.Then
typethenewpasswordintheEnterNewPasswordeld,andretypethepasswordyoujustenteredto
verifyitintheConrmNewPasswordeld.PressEnter,andaSetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.Press
F10toexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Theuserharddiskpasswordswillbechanged.
•Toremovetheharddiskpassword,typethecurrentpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.
ThenleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordeldsblank,andpressEnter.A
SetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressF10toexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Theuserharddisk
passwordswillberemoved.
TochangeorremovetheUser+Masterharddiskpassword,selectUserHDPorMasterHDP.
IfyouchooseUserHDP,dooneofthefollowing:
•Tochangetheuserharddiskpassword,typethecurrentuserharddiskpasswordorthecurrentmaster
harddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.Thentypethenewuserharddiskpasswordin
theEnterNewPasswordeld,andretypethepasswordyoujustenteredtoverifyitintheConrmNew
Passwordeld.PressEnter,andaSetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressF10toexitfromtheSetup
Noticewindow.Boththeuserandmasterharddiskpasswordswillbechanged.
•Toremovetheuserharddiskpassword,typethecurrentmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrent

ThesupervisorpasswordprotectsthesysteminformationstoredintheThinkPadSetupprogram.Withoutit,
